소비 지표 둔화 속 숨고르기… S&P 500 역대 최고치 직후 소폭 하락
뉴욕증시가 사상 최고치 경신 직후 발표된 미국 경제 지표 둔화 소식에 상승세를 멈추고 소폭 내림세로 거래를 마쳤다. 7월 소비 지표가 예상외로 감소하면서 경기 둔화 우려와 금리 동결 기대감이 동시에 작용한 결과로 풀이된다.

경기 둔화 신호와 금리 동결 기대감의 팽팽한 대립미국 미시건대가 발표한 소비자심리지수가 예상치(55)를 밑도는 51에 그치고 7월 소매판매 지표가 둔화하면서 시장에서는 경기 냉가류에 대한 경계감이 커졌다. 그러나 최근 생산자물가지수(PPI) 안정에 이어 소비 지표까지 연착륙 신호를 보이면서 연방준비제도(Fed)가 9월 통화정책 회의에서 금리를 동결할 것이라는 전망이 더욱 힘을 얻고 있다.
국제 유가는 중동 지역의 지정학적 리스크 영향으로 브렌트유 기준 barrel당 88.50달러 안팎으로 반등하며 에너지 관련주의 하방을 지지했다.
월가 전문가들은 "최근 사상 최고치를 경신한 후 경제 지표가 경고음을 내면서 시장이 잠시 차익 실현과 숨고르기에 들어간 양상"이라며 "실적 모멘텀이 살아있는 반도체와 핵심 AI 공급망 기업을 중심으로 한 수급 유입은 당분간 이어질 것"이라고 분석했다.

The Consumer Sentiment Index released by the University of Michigan stood at 51, falling below the forecast (55) As July retail sales figures slowed, market concerns regarding an economic downturn intensified. However, following the recent stabilization of the Producer Price Index (PPI) and signals of a soft landing in consumption indicators, the outlook that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged at its September monetary policy meeting is gaining further traction.
International oil prices rebounded to around $88.50 per barrel for Brent crude due to geopolitical risks in the Middle East, providing downside support for energy-related stocks.
Wall Street experts analyzed, "After recently hitting all-time highs, economic indicators sounded the alarm, and the market appears to be entering a temporary period of profit-taking and consolidation." They added, "Inflows of supply and demand centered on semiconductor and core AI supply chain companies with strong earnings momentum are expected to continue for the time being."
