불법 취업자 단속 작전 중 20명 체포
홍콩 이민국은 9월 4일부터 어제(9월 10일)까지 불법 취업자 단속을 전역에서 수행했다.
이민국 요원들은 식당, 미용실, 소매점 등 여러 대상 장소를 급습해 불법 취업 혐의자 17명, 고용주 혐의자 1명, 체류 기한을 넘긴 외국인 2명이 체포되었다. 체포된 불법 취업 혐의자는 남성 10명과 여성 7명으로, 연령대는 24세에서 50세 사이였다. 이들 중 남성 4명은 취업이 금지된 조건부 임시 체류 허가증을 소지하고 있었으며, 여성 2명은 위조 홍콩 신분증을 사용 및 소지한 혐의를 받았다. 불법 취업자들을 고용한 혐의를 받는 51세 남성 1명도 함께 체포되었다. 고용주 혐의자들에 대한 조사가 진행 중이며, 추가 체포 가능성도 배제할 수 없다.
이민국 대변인은 "자신에게 적용되는 체류 조건을 위반하는 사람은 위법 행위를 저지르는 것"이라며, "또한 방문객은 이민국장의 허가 없이는 유급 또는 무급 여부를 불문하고 홍콩에서 취업할 수 없다"고 밝혔다.
위반자는 최대 5만 홍콩달러의 벌금과 2년 이하의 징역형에 처해질 수 있습니다. 범행을 돕거나 방조한 사람 또한 기소 및 처벌 대상이다.
20 Arrested in Crackdown on Illegal Workers
The Hong Kong Immigration Department conducted territory-wide operations to crack down on illegal workers from September 4 to September 10.
Immigration officers raided various locations, including restaurants, hair salons, and retail shops, arresting 17 suspected illegal workers, one suspected employer, and two foreign nationals who had overstayed their visas. The suspected illegal workers comprised 10 men and 7 women, aged between 24 and 50. Among them, four men held conditional stay permits that prohibited employment, while two women were suspected of possessing and using forged Hong Kong identity cards. A 51-year-old man suspected of employing the illegal workers was also arrested. Investigations into the suspected employers are ongoing, and the possibility of further arrests cannot be ruled out.
An Immigration Department spokesperson stated, "Any person who violates the conditions of stay applicable to them is committing an offense." The spokesperson added, "Furthermore, visitors are prohibited from taking up employment in Hong Kong—whether paid or unpaid—without the permission of the Director of Immigration." Violators face a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and up to two years in prison. Those who aid or abet such offenses are also subject to prosecution and penalties.
