경찰과 현지 목격자에 따르면, 사건은 지난 2일 밤 방콕을 떠나 홍콩 국제공항으로 향하던 HK익스프레스(UO703) 편 내에서 발생했다. 중국 국적의 57세 남성 용의자는 비행 중 좌석을 이탈해 뒷좌석 부근의 선반을 열고 다른 승객의 짐을 무단으로 뒤진 혐의를 받고 있다.
이 남성은 자신의 자리가 아님에도 다른 승객의 가방을 임의로 만지거나 "내 가방"이라고 주장을 번복하는 등 수상한 행동을 보였다. 이를 예의주시하던 다른 승객이 즉시 기내 승무원에게 이상 행동을 신고하며 발빠르게 대처했다.
이번 사건으로 피해 승객이 빼앗긴 금액은 약 5,885 홍콩달러 규모인 것으로 파악됐다. 경찰은 체포된 남성을 상대로 정확한 범행 동기와 추가 여죄 여부를 조사 중이며, 최근 입국 항공기 내에서 승객들의 현금과 귀중품을 노린 수하물 절도 범죄가 잇따르고 있어 여행객들의 각별한 주의를 당부했다.
[4 강압적인 판매 전술로 인한 체포
홍콩 해관 상업범죄 수사관들은 지난 2일 샤틴에 위치한 대형 쇼핑몰 New Town Plaza의 한 뷰티·스킨케어 매장(구 오파트라 런던 관련 매장)에서 근무했던 22세 여성 판매원을 무역거래법(Trade Descriptions Ordinance) 위반 혐의로 체포했다고 공식 발표했다.
해당 판매원은 매장을 찾은 고객에게 고가의 스킨케어 제품과 미용 기기를 강매하는 과정에서 부당한 영향력을 행사하고 지속적인 압박을 가한 혐의를 받고 있다. 이로 인해 소비자가 원하지 않는 거래를 강요당해 금전적 피해를 입은 것으로 드러났다.
해관 측은 앞서 구속된 재무 및 행정 관리자들에 이어 이번 현장 판매원까지 총 3명의 관련자를 체포했으며, 현재까지 이 업체를 상대로 접수된 유사 피해 신고만 38건, 피해 총액은 약 300만 홍콩달러에 달한다고 밝혔다.
홍콩 해관 관계자는 "소비자의 선택권을 제한하는 강압적이고 위협적인 상업 행위는 명백한 불법"임을 강조하며, 유사한 수법으로 피해를 입은 소비자들의 적극적인 신고와 제보를 당부했다. 해당 법 위반 시 최고 50만 홍콩달러의 벌금과 5년 이하의 징역형에 처해질 수 있다

It is estimated that the amount stolen from the victim in this incident is approximately 5,885 Hong Kong dollars. [4 Arrest Due to Coercive Sales Tactics]
Hong Kong Customs commercial crime investigators officially announced on the 2nd that they arrested a 22-year-old female salesperson working at a beauty and skincare store (formerly an Opatra London-related store) in New Town Plaza, a large shopping mall in Sha Tin, on charges of violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance. The salesperson in question is accused of exerting undue influence and applying continuous pressure while forcing customers visiting the store to purchase expensive skincare products and beauty devices. It was revealed that consumers suffered financial damages as a result of being coerced into unwanted transactions.
Customs authorities announced that they have arrested a total of three individuals involved, including this on-site salesperson, following the previously detained financial and administrative managers. They stated that to date, 38 similar damage reports have been filed against the company, with total losses amounting to approximately HK$3 million.
A Hong Kong Customs official emphasized that "coercive and threatening commercial practices that restrict consumer choice are clearly illegal," and urged consumers who have suffered damages through similar tactics to actively report and provide information. Violations of this law can result in a fine of up to HK$500,000 and imprisonment for up to five years.
