어린이 예방접종
건강보호센터(CHP)는 8월 11일 언론브리핑을 통해 학부모들에게 홍콩 어린이 예방접종 프로그램(HKCIP)에 따라 자녀들이 적시에 예방접종을 받도록 당부했다.
홍콩은 1960년대에 예방접종 프로그램을 시행하여 보건부 산하 모자보건센터와 학교 예방접종팀을 통해 어린이들에게 예방접종 서비스를 제공해 왔다.
CHP 센터장 에드윈 추이 박사는 홍콩의 높은 예방접종률 덕분에 어린이 감염병 발생률을 매우 낮은 수준으로 유지할 수 있었다고 강조했다.
추이 박사는 예방접종을 통해 달성한 중요한 성과들을 언급하며, 1980년 전 세계 천연두 박멸과 2000년 홍콩의 소아마비 퇴치를 예로 들었다. 또한 홍역과 풍진 역시 홍콩에서 각각 2016년과 2021년에 성공적으로 퇴치되었다고 덧붙였다.
홍콩 아동 예방접종 프로그램(HKCIP)에 따라, 어린이들은 생후 12개월에 홍역, 볼거리, 풍진(MMR) 혼합 백신을 접종받고, 18개월에 홍역, 볼거리, 풍진, 수두(MMRV) 백신을 접종받았다.
높은 백신 접종률 덕분에 지난 2년간 해외 유입 홍역 사례는 지역 사회 감염을 크게 확산시키지 않았으며, 홍콩은 홍역 퇴치 국가 지위를 유지할 수 있었다.
더불어, 홍콩의 미취학 아동 대상 B형 간염 예방접종률은 99%에 달한다. 그 결과, 1988년 전 아동 대상 B형 간염 예방접종 프로그램 도입 이후 출생한 사람들 사이에서 B형 간염 발병률은 1% 미만으로 떨어졌다.
CHP는 모든 공중 보건 정책과 의료 권고 사항은 엄격하게 근거에 기반해야 한다고 강조했다. 부모들은 신뢰할 수 있는 과학적 데이터나 의학 연구 결과 없이 예방접종 일정을 임의로 변경해서는 안 되며, 그렇게 할 경우 아이들에게 심각하고 돌이킬 수 없는 건강 위험을 초래할 수 있음을 유념해야 한다.
Childhood Vaccination
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) urged parents during a press briefing on August 11 to ensure their children receive timely vaccinations under the Hong Kong Childhood Immunization Program (HKCIP).
Hong Kong has been providing vaccination services to children since the 1960s through Maternal and Child Health Centres under the Department of Health and school immunization teams.
Dr. Edwin Tsui, Director of the CHP, emphasized that Hong Kong has been able to maintain a very low incidence of infectious diseases among children thanks to its high vaccination rates.
Referring to significant achievements made through vaccination, Dr. Tsui cited the global eradication of smallpox in 1980 and the eradication of polio in Hong Kong in 2000 as examples. He also added that measles and rubella were successfully eradicated in Hong Kong in 2016 and 2021, respectively.
Childhood Vaccination Under the Hong Kong Child Immunization Program (HKCIP), children receive the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) combination vaccine at 12 months of age and the measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox (MMRV) vaccine at 18 months.
Thanks to high vaccination rates, imported measles cases over the past two years have not significantly spread community infection, allowing Hong Kong to maintain its status as a measles-free nation.
In addition, the hepatitis B vaccination rate for preschool children in Hong Kong reaches 99%. As a result, the incidence of hepatitis B among those born after the introduction of the all-child hepatitis B vaccination program in 1988 has dropped to less than 1%.
The CHP emphasized that all public health policies and medical recommendations must be strictly based on evidence. Parents should be mindful that they should not arbitrarily change vaccination schedules without reliable scientific data or medical research results, as doing so could pose serious and irreversible health risks to their children.
