폴찬 재무장관, 대규모 행사로 소비 활성화 전망
폴 찬 모포 재무장관은 올해 남은 기간 동안 100개 이상의 대규모 행사가 예정되어 있는 가운데, 홍콩에 185만 명 이상의 관광객이 방문할 것으로 전망했다.
이는 올해 상반기에 약 175만 명의 관광객이 130개 이상의 대규모 행사에 참여하여 약 58억 홍콩달러의 소비를 창출하고 약 33억 홍콩달러의 경제적 가치를 더한 데 따른 것이다. 홍콩의 소매 판매 또한 14개월 연속 증가세를 보이며 올해 상반기에는 9.6% 증가했다.
찬 장관은 최근 카이탁 스포츠 파크에서 열린 홍콩 축구 페스티벌 2026과 아우디 축구 서밋 2026을 경제적 파급 효과의 사례로 언급했다.
세 경기에 12만 명이 넘는 관중이 모였으며, 티켓 판매 수익이 1억 8천만 홍콩달러를 넘어설 것으로 예상된다고 밝혔다.
찬 재무부 장관은 카이탁 인근 식당들도 경기 기간 동안 매출이 약 20% 증가했다고 덧붙였다. 상인들은 매출 증대를 위해 티켓 할인, 식사 할인, 무료 주차 등의 프로모션을 진행했다.
찬 장관은 홍콩에서 앞으로 몇 달 동안 푸드 엑스포, 국경절 불꽃놀이, 홍콩 사이클로톤, 와인앤다인 페스티벌 등 100개가 넘는 행사가 예정되어 있다고 언급했다.
그는 185만 명 이상의 관광객이 홍콩을 방문하여 약 59억 홍콩달러의 소비와 33억 홍콩달러의 경제적 가치를 창출할 것으로 예상했다.
특히 10월에는 홍콩에서 처음으로 개최되는 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 재무장관회의(FMM)가 주요 행사로 꼽힌다.
찬 재무장관은 아시아 태평양 지역의 주요 정치 및 경제 지도자들이 홍콩을 방문하는 이번 기회를 통해 홍콩을 세계적인 국제 금융 중심지이자 문화, 예술, 스포츠, 라이프스타일을 경험할 수 있는 활기찬 허브로 소개할 것이라고 밝혔다.

Finance Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po projected that over 1.85 million tourists will visit Hong Kong, with more than 100 large-scale events scheduled for the remainder of the year.
This forecast follows the first half of the year, when approximately 1.75 million tourists participated in over 130 large-scale events, generating HK$5.8 billion in consumption and adding HK$3.3 billion in economic value. Hong Kong's retail sales also showed a growth trend for 14 consecutive months, increasing by 9.6% in the first half of the year.
Secretary Chan cited the Hong Kong Football Festival 2026 and the Audi Football Summit 2026, recently held at Kai Tak Sports Park, as examples of their economic impact.
He stated that over 120,000 spectators gathered for the three matches, and ticket sales revenue is expected to exceed HK$180 million.
Secretary Chan added that restaurants near Kai Tak also saw a sales increase of approximately 20% during the event period. Merchants ran promotions such as ticket discounts, dining discounts, and free parking to boost sales.
Secretary Chan noted that over 100 events are scheduled in Hong Kong over the next few months, including the Food Expo, National Day fireworks, the Hong Kong Cycloton, and the Wine & Dine Festival.
He predicted that over 1.85 million tourists would visit Hong Kong, generating approximately HK$5.9 billion in spending and HK$3.3 billion in economic value.
In particular, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers' Meeting (FMM), being held in Hong Kong for the first time, is considered a major event in October.
Secretary Chan stated that through this opportunity for key political and economic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region to visit Hong Kong, he would introduce Hong Kong as a global international financial center and a vibrant hub where one can experience culture, arts, sports, and lifestyle.
