홍콩, 6G 시대 대비
알저넌 야우 잉와 상무경제개발부 장관은 8월 4일, 포럼에서 정부가 북방대도시를 국제적인 혁신 기술 도시로 개발하는 동시에 통신 산업을 위한 우대 조치를 도입하여 6G 시대를 대비할 것이라고 밝혔다.
야우 장관은 북방대도시가 홍콩의 전략적 비전인 "남북 쌍추진(금융 및 IT)" 체제 하에서 새로운 성장 동력과 기술 기반 역할을 할 것이라고 강조했다.
야우 장관은 홍콩을 지역 통신 허브로서 더욱 강화하기 위해 정부가 통신 부문에 대한 다각적인 지원을 통해 기업 친화적인 환경을 조성하는 것을 목표로 한다고 덧붙였다.
6G 시대를 대비하기 위한 주요 계획에는 광섬유 및 모바일 네트워크 인프라 업그레이드 지원, 주파수 세금 감면, 저궤도 위성 및 저고도 경제에 대한 규제 체계 개선 등이 포함된다.

Hong Kong Prepares for the 6G Era
On August 4, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying Wah announced at a forum that the government will prepare for the 6G era by developing the Northern Metropolis into an international hub for innovative technology while simultaneously introducing preferential measures for the telecommunications industry.
Secretary Yau emphasized that the Northern Metropolis will serve as a new growth engine and technology base under Hong Kong's strategic vision of "North-South Dual Propulsion (Finance and IT)."
Secretary Yau added that the government aims to create a business-friendly environment through multifaceted support for the telecommunications sector to further strengthen Hong Kong as a regional telecommunications hub.
Key plans to prepare for the 6G era include support for upgrading fiber optic and mobile network infrastructure, frequency tax reductions, and improvements to the regulatory framework for low-orbit satellites and low-altitude economies.
Algernon Yau added that technological innovation is essential for businesses amidst ongoing economic restructuring and global market volatility. It was emphasized that Hong Kong must not stop at developing artificial intelligence (AI) technology but integrate it into daily business operations to transform innovation into a tangible engine for economic growth.
